Counseling for chronic pain

It’s not all in your head.
And it’s not your fault.

Experiences of pain and illness can be both physically and emotionally debilitating. Overwhelming hopelessness, powerlessness, or grief for the loss of bodily ability can be just as painful as the actual physical experience of pain.

We also know that trauma, chronic stress, and oppression are linked with increased rates of chronic pain, inflammation, and autoimmune conditions. If you have had difficulty discovering the physical cause for your chronic pain, or the original cause has long since healed while the pain has remained, you may be experiencing a trauma or stress-related condition.

Chronic pain therapy can help ease intense emotional reactions to pain and reduce pain associated with trauma or stress. We’ll work together to create a space for you to process the emotional experience of pain, increase compassion for yourself during experiences of pain, and work through emotional hurts that may be the root cause or contributing factor in chronic pain and/or illness.
