Body liberation therapy
All bodies deserve care and understanding
If you’re living in a marginalized body - disabled, fat, neurodiverse, black, brown, trans - internalized oppression can show up in a myriad of ways. Perhaps you know intellectually what you need and deserve, but have trouble asking for it or feeling it. Perhaps there’s a negative story stuck in your head about your desirability or worthiness, or you’re holding yourself to a standard that isn’t healthy or helpful for you. Perhaps you are experiencing pain or illness. Perhaps you’ve even experienced something painful related to how others perceive your body.
Living with the reality of body-based oppression is so much more than loving your body or even accepting your body as it is. The things you think and feel didn’t just come out of nowhere - they’re the result of so many things, including societal conditioning, our own families, and intergenerational trauma.
As a fat liberation therapist, I believe that your body is not the problem - society is. I will seek to hold your complex story and feelings with tenderness and care as we get to the root of long-held beliefs and trauma held in the body.
